Further Development-Stage 2

Below are sketches continue on design ideation:

Different versions of stool were explored to take its best advantage. Sketches enable me to gain better understanding of forms without making models. I was interested in different elements that give my chair a dynamic form/design. This is also a consideration required in the event.

CONCEPT 6
Latest versions of the models I tried to make the chair out of cardboard and color paper to create pattern/texture as an add-on element/branding for the seat. I was happy with this concept which I will push it forward to making the final 1:1 model.

An accurate calculation on the chair dimensions to fit in 1800x1200mm board is required. And these aspects I'll need more development:
_ Proportion
_ Locking systems
_ Backrest support

Final Submission-Initial Concepts

CONCEPT 1
Triangular forms always create the strongest foundation, as I gave a go for further exploration on how the chair is formed by 2 opposite interlocking triangles. Image above was my first attempt of the stool.

My challenge to design a chair is a lightweight, portable and comfortable seat yet still remain its aesthetic look.

CONCEPT 2
As taken reference of my Hexagon stool design from Esquisse 4, I came up with this shape and the stool was made by using only one long piece of cardboard to fold.

CONCEPT 3
The last concept was the most complete one as I like this chair in both its function and form. It has the backrest to provide the comfort and the structure is steady more than the first two tryouts.

The weak point of this design was having a connection point that attaches the backrest with its seat thus it becomes loose and bent over in long use.

Inspirations

Above were selected works as part of inspiration and my initial concepts were derived from. I look into different objects from lighting to seating to study the shapes, way of folding or joining, and even slotting technique as seen.

Research on Events & Evironment

The event has largely drawn attention from design industry throughout. The show attracted 85,298 visitors in year 2007 and potentially growing in the following years. Every entry of different designers was really interesting and fully finished. I was inspired by a few of displayed pieces.

In order to suit the Event intention, I have therefore come up with an idea to design a compact, portable seating piece to cater for indoor usage. This chair could possibly be a foldable stool, easy to pack and assemble, ideal for indoor event or allows
event visitors get halted when wanted. The stool could also be able to connect with one another as a bench (progressing idea).

I also consider of the chair'
s comfortable size and function that fit into the context or incorporate with other elements of the event.
